Went straight from the airport transfer at 8am and had the top viewpoint completely empty for 20 minutes before the first tour vans showed up. Entrance is a donation of about 15,000-25,000 IDR (~$1-1.60) per viewpoint along the road, and yes, there are several separate 'entrances' each wanting their own small fee — a bit annoying but each is genuinely a different angle of the terraces. Paths are dirt and get slick after rain, wear real shoes.

80,000 IDR (~$5) entry, which felt steep for 45 minutes of walking, but the mossy temple ruins under the canopy are genuinely beautiful and worth it on their own. One macaque grabbed my sunglasses off my head and I had to trade a banana to get them back — keep anything loose zipped away. Paths are clean and well swept.

Free to walk through at lunchtime, took maybe 20 minutes to see the carved gates and courtyards properly. If you only have one day you'll miss the evening Legong dance performance, which is a shame since that's the real highlight — worth coming back for on a longer trip. Grounds were clean and shaded, a good break from the heat.
